Chinese scientists from Hong Kong Polytechnic University have revealed the long -term effect of obesity on brain health. It turned out that excessive weight provoked rapid aging of brain cells. The study was published scientifically magazine Nature Mental Health (NMH).
The team analyzed the data of 500 thousand participants and emphasized the five orbit of the body weight of the middle and elderly air.
The most anxious results are shown by groups with stable and progressive obesity. Such participants found structural changes in the brain: First, the frontal and limbic regions (responsible for decision -making and emotions), then violations applied to parietal and temporal lobes.
In severe cases, cognitive functions that can be compared with accelerated brain aging decreased by 5-10 years.
Interestingly, people who have managed to reduce weight (“decreasing orbits” group) showed minimum negative results. This confirms the hypothesis that the timely correction of obesity can protect the brain.
Protecting a healthy weight, it is not only a physical form, but also a way to maintain the clarity of old age, Professor Professor Ancı TSU said.
Scientists plan to continue research to identify biological mechanisms that connect metabolism and neurodegenerative processes.
