The Ministry of Economy has launched aid for companies in the Community of Valencia that have reduced their working day to four days. The amount will reach 9,611 euros per worker, as long as the cut is 20% or 32 hours per week without affecting wages. Thus, the regional department complies with the announcement made by Enric Nomdedéu, the regional secretary for employment, months ago in an initiative that involved holding an international congress at which this proposal was analyzed.
These subsidies from the General Directorate of Labor were published in the Official Journal of the Generalitat Valenciana this Wednesday and trying to mitigate the rise in companies’ wage costs appeared as a result of taking measures to rationalize the working day.
In order to receive a scholarship, The work commitment to reduce the regular working day should affect the minimum workforce.. Therefore, in companies with up to 49 employees, 30% of the workforce should be affected by the time reduction. This rate will be reduced to 20% in companies with 50 or more employees.
In any event, the proposal for the number of workers participating in the program is a similar participation of women and men with regard to the pre-existing gender distribution in the entire workforce with a full-time employment contract. In this sense, a maximum deviation of 10% will be allowed.
Likewise, the fundamentals of this new assistance reveal that companies benefiting from it must come up with a plan to reduce the workday and increase productivity, and specify what that plan is. Organizational or training measures planned to be implemented to optimize uptime. It will need to collect a set of indicators (including the evolution of labor productivity in the company) that will be evaluated periodically. Likewise, the hourly deduction should be counted to receive a subsidy in agreement with the legal representative of the staff.
Regarding the subsidy amount, the ministry will offer a subsidy of 5,492.19 euros for each worker included in the plan to reduce working hours for the first full year of implementation of the programme; 2.746.10 second year; and 1,373.05 euros for the third. In this way, the maximum total amount of subsidies the beneficiary company can receive will be EUR 9,611.34 per employee assigned to the plan.
