American scientists presented innovative material, a transparent tree that can replace plastic and glass in construction and electronics. Unlike previously developed analogs, the new material can be almost completely natural and biologically disintegrated. Reporting this American Chemical Association (ACS).
One of the authors of the study was Bharat Baruah from the University of Kenneso, Professor of Chemistry, inspired by India’s ancient construction technologies, where he used a mixture of sand, sticky rice and egg proteins instead of cement. These components helped create a transparent tree that combines power and environmental friendship.
To obtain new materials, scientists removed special compounds from wood, left the porous structure of cellulose, and then filled the pores with egg proteins and rice extract solution. It turned out that the resulting material was not only transparent, but also quite flexible and durable.
The researchers replaced a transparent tree window glass, set it in a small house and measured the temperature inside. It turned out that the house, which is a “wooden glass”, remained cool 5-6 ° C than normal glass, which made it promising to save energy.
In addition, scientists made an electrical conductor by adding silver nanoni to the transparent tree. This opens opportunities for the use of sensors, solar panels and wearable electronics. In the future, researchers plan to replace silver with graphene to maintain the biological degradability of the material.
