Harvard Faculty of Medicine’s American scientists have found that the use of hepatocellular carcinoma (GCC) in patients with chronic liver diseases – the most common type of liver cancer – and significantly reduced the risk of developing decompansation of liver decomposition. The study was published scientifically magazine Jama Internal Medicine.
Statins are a group of commonly used drugs to reduce blood cholesterol. They prevent the effect of GMG-CoA reductase enzyme, which plays an important role in the production of cholesterol in the liver.
Experts analyzed the data of 16501 patients with chronic liver disease of 40 years and older. Participants of the study are divided into two groups: taking statin and not taking. Researchers have estimated the 10 -year risk of the risk of developing state customs code, liver decomposition and the progress of liver fibrosis.
The results have shown that statin intake reduces the risk of developing state customs code by 33%and 22%of the risk of liver decompensation. Lipophilic statins are most effective, which reduces HCC’s chances of emergence by 36%.
The use of long -term statin (more than 600 cumulative daily doses) reduced the risk of GCC by 40%and the risk of liver decompensation by 36%. In addition, in patients with statin, there was less progression of liver fibrosis.
