American scientists from the University of California in Los Angeles turned out to be the most important factor of happiness for unmarried young people at the age of 18-24. The study was published scientifically magazine Plos One.
Early adult life is a period of significant changes in work, career and social activity.
Scientists analyzed the data of 1073 unmarried and unmarried young people and identified five groups according to their level of happiness.
It turned out that the happiest participants were highly satisfied with friendship, low neuroticism and high self -esteem. On the contrary, at least happy people suffered from friendship and low satisfaction from the family and high levels of neuroticism.
One of the key results was that the presence of the best friend significantly increased the level of happiness. Those who did not have a close friend fell more often to the group that was the least happy. This emphasizes not only the number of social ties, but the importance of the quality of friendship relations.
Interestingly, women were less happy than men.
Researchers also stated that strong friendship could compensate for the negative impact of high levels of neuroticism, which made it an important factor emotionally in good condition.
Previously, scientists provenThis strong friendship protects against better depression than romantic relationships.
