Scientists from the University of Bristol have found that a large amount of diet can improve social skills in children and increase their altruism tendencies. Research Results published In the European Journal of Nutrition.
Omega-3 fatty acids, which play an important role in the development of fish and seafood, brain and cognitive functions, contain iodine and selenium. To find out how these foods affect children’s behavioral characteristics, scientists analyzed “Children of the 90s” research data.
Within the framework of this project, information was collected about the health status and the diet of 5969 children and their parents. The data were recorded for two years and corrected by taking into account social and demographic factors.
The results have shown that children who often have fish -eating prosocial behaviors, including friendly interaction, altruism and the ability to share, are higher. In addition, in the absence of fish in the diet, 35% of proxosyal behavior in seven -year -old children were found to be more frequently optimal. This indicator rose to 43% among nine -year boys and girls.
Researchers also examined the relationship between seafood use and intelligence coefficient at the age of seven, but no correlation was found.
British National Health Service Specialists claim that a healthy and balanced diet should contain at least two portions of fish per week. At the same time, you need to consume fat species once a week – salmon, mackerel or sardine.
