Scientists from the University of Sydney changed the immune cells of global (brain tumor type) to increase their ability to attack cancer. Research Results published Nature Medicine (Natmed) magazine.
Glioblastom is one of the most dangerous types of cancer. Most patients have not lived for more than a year and a half years than the diagnosis, because the disease secretly develops and is usually diagnosed in later stages.
The Car-T therapy was the basis of the new treatment method. Technology is based on extraction of the cells of the immune system (T-Lenfocytes) from the body, and genetic modifications to obtain antitumor properties with the patient’s subsequent input.
CAR-T treatment has already been used to treat blood cancer, but so far it has not shown good results in the treatment of solid (solid) tumors such as glioblastoma. This is due to the fact that such tumors are composed of cells with various mutations and the Car-T-therapy often fights only one of them.
The new approach is a combination of CAR-T treatment using immune T cells. This allows the body to attack EGFR protein, the characteristic of most glioblastoma.
During the experiment, six patients were applied to a brain spinal cord fluid that washed the brain. This has led to a rapid reduction in the size of tumors. Only one of the participants had recurrence and the repeated treatment did not result.
Scientists hope that more research and clinical research will help improve methodology and expand the life of patients with glioblastoma.
Previously It was clear A new type of cell that can help treatment of brain damage.
