Researchers from the National University of Singapore developed a single -layer amorphous carbon with scientists of Rice University -a new two -dimensional material that appeared to be eight times stronger than Grafen. Published in İş Magazine Subject.
Grafen is one of the most powerful materials in the world, but it has a serious disadvantage: if a crack occurs in it, it spreads very quickly, which makes the material fragile. This limits the use of real devices, especially in areas that require high mechanical stability.
The new material, such as graphene, consists of only one layer of carbon atom. However, it has a heterogeneous structure that combines both regular (crystalline) and irregular areas. This is the ability to resist the formation of a unique power and crack.
“Such a design prevents the spread of cracks rapidly, allowing the material to absorb more energy before destruction, Bok said Boongki Shin, the joint author of the study.
In order to examine the mechanical features of Mac, scientists used space tests in the scanning electron microscope, allowing to observe the formation of cracks in real time. They also made computer modeling at atomic level. This made it possible to understand how amorphous and crystal areas interacted and prevented the spread of cracks.
“Previously, such studies were impossible, because it is difficult to create and visualize ultra -intelligent materials at atomic level. However, thanks to new synthesis methods and high -precision microscopy, we managed to do this. ”
According to scientists, the new discovery can lead to the creation of strong and stable components for the technology of the future.
