Genotek scientists analyzed the data of more than eight million Russian population of the XVII-XX centuries and found couples with the most common and rare names. “Gazeta.ru” met with the results of the study.

The change of historical, cultural and social conditions had a direct impact on the choice of name at different times. Genotek experts examined tens of thousands of noibrams separated in the 17th century to analyze how the fashion of names changed in different periods.

In the 19th century, in Russia, the most common pairs of the names of the bride and groom were traditional orthodox combinations: Ivan and Anna (0.85%), Ivan and Maria (0.66%), Ivan and evdokia (0.64%). This reflects the deep effect of Orthodox saints on the choice of name in this period. An analysis of deeper noble trees showed that the couple was the most common in both the XVIII and the XVII centuries. In the meantime, the male name does not enter the first thousand degrees. There is a change in the names in the XX century: Couples with Alexander (eg, Alexander and Tatyana -0.56%, Alexander and Elena -0.49%). New popular women such as Tatyana, Olga, Natalya and Valentina are also revealed. This certainly shows the transition from a traditional election to more varied cultural influences, including literature and cinema. The name Sergei has become one of the popular male names of this period.

“It is not less interesting to pay attention to couples with rare names that reflect the spirit of their time. In the XIX century, such unusual combinations were welcomed as Vispensia and Gikerere or Folimon and Wise. In the XX century, other curious couples, such as Olympia and Olympics or Vilen and Zoya appeared. Anyone who entered the work of the genealogy will probably discover the unique name of the ancestor who stores the history of the family. ”
