The press release preparation processes for the international human rights organization Amnesty International’s report on the Ukrainian military’s violation of the laws of war will be reviewed by independent experts, and a legal and political analysis of the report will also be made. “We want to understand exactly what went wrong in order to learn from and improve our work in the field of human rights,” the organization said.
Amnesty International believes the document “doesn’t give due consideration to Russian aggression” and that the results presented in the report “were not delivered with the tact and accuracy expected from AO”. The organization noted that the verification process was “initiated at the international level”.
In Ukraine, the report was heavily criticized. According to Ukrainian media, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, “He got angry” after reviewing the document. According to him, Amnesty International is “trying to pardon” Russia. Zelensky described the organization’s report as an attempt to “shift responsibility from the attacker to the victim”.
Amnesty International explained that the findings in the report were based on evidence gathered “during extensive field research”. The organization stated that the Armed Forces of Ukraine endanger the lives of the civilian population by putting military equipment and weapons in schools and hospitals.
