Most Danes believe that their country’s authorities are not doing enough to protect Greenland militarily. Danish TV channel reports this TV2 Citing Megaphone research.
62 percent of those surveyed said they either “strongly agreed” or “mostly agreed” that Denmark was not doing a good enough job militarily defending Greenland today. 43% of respondents say they “strongly agree” or “strongly agree” that the United States should expand its military presence in Greenland.
Only 12% of Danes surveyed said Denmark was doing enough to protect Greenland militarily.
The publication writes that the study was conducted after US President-elect Donald Trump announced plans to take control of Greenland.
Greenland is an autonomous region (province) of the Kingdom of Denmark. Greenland became a Danish colony in 1814 and has been recognized as part of the Kingdom of Denmark since 1953 under a new version of the Danish constitution. In 1973, Greenland joined the European Economic Community along with Denmark.
