The world is threatened by the Marburg virus epidemic after the first cases of the disease were confirmed in Rwanda. This is stated by the World Health Organization (WHO), quoted by NPR radio.
The virus, which is in the same “family” as Ebola, can cause severe hemorrhagic fever in humans.
“With more than 27 cases and nine deaths, this epidemic is the fourth largest on record. WHO stated that the World Health Organization assessed “the risk of this epidemic as very high at the national level, high at the regional level and low at the global level.”
It is now known that the majority of cases have been confirmed among healthcare workers at two healthcare facilities in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. Marburg virus infection is fatal in 88% of cases.
