A Belgorod resident became a victim of scammers and gave them nine million rubles. This is reported by control Ministry of Internal Affairs for the region.
Scammers introduced themselves to a 78-year-old woman as employees of various structures. At first they claimed that someone had stolen money from her deposit, but said that it was still possible to return it.
To do this, the Russian woman went to the bank. There, real employees refused to give her a loan, convincing her that the woman was dealing with scammers. Despite this, the Russian woman received a fake serious illness certificate from the scammers and took out a loan. The pensioner at the bank justified her by claiming that she needed urgent surgery.
The scammers then convinced the Russian woman that her apartment had been sold and could only be returned by completing the “mirror” process. The woman agreed.
“The total damage caused to him exceeded nine million rubles,” the ministry said.
A criminal case has been filed under the fraud article regarding the incident. Police are determining the identities of the perpetrators.
