Scientists prove the benefits of special education for rheumatoid arthritis 16:31

High-intensity interval training (HIIT) and strength training are beneficial for patients with rheumatoid arthritis. This was reported by Health Day.

The study involved 87 patients with rheumatoid arthritis. They were randomly assigned to an intervention group or a control group. The former did HIIT and strength training for 12 weeks, while the latter were advised to spend less than 150 minutes of physical activity per week.

The HIIT and strength training group experienced significant improvements in heart and respiratory function. There was also a decrease in waist circumference and other changes associated with reduced cardiovascular disease and accidents. However, the intense training did not lead to increased joint pain.

During HIIT, short, high-intensity workouts are alternated with periods of rest or light exercise. Often these workouts are shorter than regular workouts.
