Cameron Yaste, commander of the American destroyer USS John S. McCain, was removed from his post after a photo appeared on social networks of him firing a rifle with the scope mounted upside down. This was reported by News Week.
Yaste’s photo was posted four months ago on the US Navy Instagram page (its owner, Meta, is known as an extremist in Russia and is banned) but after a wave of criticism and widespread publicity, the Navy removed the photo.
In the photo, the commander is firing a rifle from the side of the destroyer, but the gun’s sight is mounted backwards. The US Navy later said Yaste was relieved of his duties “due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command a guided missile destroyer currently deployed in the Gulf of Oman.”
