On September 1, the law on compulsory carrier liability insurance (OSGOP) for passenger taxis comes into force, which also provides for proportionate compensation for damage to passengers’ property, health or life. This was reported by RIA Novosti First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Transport and Transport Infrastructure Development Pavel Fedyaev.
“The introduction of compulsory carrier liability insurance (OSGOP) causes a lot of discussion in the media. Despite the pressure from the taxi industry, we do not intend to delay its implementation. We made this decision consciously, in order to increase the level of passenger protection,” Fedyaev said.
He added that this law has existed for over 10 years and during this time it has proven itself as an effective tool in protecting public transport passengers.
According to Fedyaev, the insurance company will pay proportional compensation in case of damage to property, health or life of passengers.
