The Ministry of Regional Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia said that the work of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant was stopped due to a lightning strike. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the department’s press service.
It is reported that the station employees are currently working on the restart of the station. The incident occurred on August 30 at around 20:55 Moscow time.
“The Armenian nuclear power plant was disconnected from the power system in emergency shutdown mode. The cause was a lightning strike that caused the station’s safety systems to switch it to a safe shutdown mode,” the press service said in a statement.
The Ministry emphasized the importance of modernizing the plant’s equipment in recent years, as the security systems of nuclear power plants are very sensitive today and respond quickly to any situation.
