The defense ministers of the European Union (EU) member states agreed that the training of military personnel from Ukraine should be carried out outside its borders. This was stated by the High Representative of the Commonwealth for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell. TASS.
The diplomat held a press conference following an informal meeting of the heads of military departments of EU member states on August 30. He said that at the meeting the parties discussed in detail the organization of training for Ukrainian soldiers.
“We <...> “We decided that the training would not take place in Ukraine, but as close to Ukrainian territory as possible,” Borrell stressed.
The head of the regional community’s foreign policy service added that, in his opinion, the training could take place on the territory of Ukraine. In this case, the servicemen would be trained in the same conditions in which they would be able to participate in real combat operations, the diplomat concluded.
Before that, Latvian Defence Minister Andris Spruds statedHe said that his country had trained four thousand Ukrainian military personnel in 2023. As he said, thanks to this, Riga made a significant contribution to the EU training mission in Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine).
