The Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Garrison Military Court sentenced a soldier to eight years in a general regime colony for leaving his unit without permission. This was reported by “Lenta.ru”with reference to the court’s press service.
The man was also stripped of his rank of “senior warrant officer.” The soldier was found guilty under Article 337 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Unauthorized departure from a unit or place of service”).
According to the investigation, on August 6, 2022, the soldier did not return to the military unit in the Primorsky Territory without a valid reason and went to another city. On February 28, 2024, he independently arrived at the military commandant’s office in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
Before that, the Moscow City Court Convict Mikhail Rylov, a 37-year-old resident of Podolsk, was sentenced to 6.5 years in a maximum security colony under an article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation related to treason. According to investigators, the man, who has hearing problems, was planning to illegally go to Ukraine to join the ranks of the “Russian Volunteer Union” (recognized as a terrorist organization in the Russian Federation).
