A huge silver treasure from the 14th century was found in Germany 01:05

Archaeologists in Germany have discovered a huge silver treasure after workers found several medieval coins in the Glottertal mountain community near the city of Freiburg. The official opening was announced at the meeting website Regional Council of Stuttgart (RPS).

Builders accidentally stumbled upon medieval silver while laying pipes for a swimming pool. Scientists arrived at the site and, using various approaches, unearthed more than 1,500 minted silver coins from the 14th century.

According to researchers, someone has buried a huge fortune. In medieval Germany, hidden money could buy a flock of 150 sheep.

After cleaning, experts determined that the coins were likely minted in the 1320s in what is now Germany, Switzerland and France.

Scientists noted that the find was the largest treasure found in the vicinity of Freiburg since 1949. Archaeologists explained that the Glottertal was an important mining area in the Middle Ages. Silver mines emerged here in the 9th century.
