The fifth-generation strategic nuclear submarine (NSS) will be built for the Russian Navy by 2040. He said this in an interview RIA NovostiIgor Vilnit, General Director of the Central Design Bureau of Marine Equipment “Rubin”, RIA Novosti.
According to him, this will be a ship that will replace modern strategic missile submarines of projects 955 and 955A.
“The need for new ships will arise at the beginning of 2040,” Vilnit said.
He noted that research and development work should be completed, the lead ship built and its tests completed within 16 years.
Rubin’s general manager stressed that developments on the subject are already available.
Before this Vilnius reportedThe new non-nuclear submarines could be armed with two types of drones — sea-based to search for underwater mines and airborne reconnaissance aircraft. These drones would be linked to the submarine’s automated combat control system to relay missions.
