AI taught to diagnose diseases based on tongue color 14:14

Scientists from MTU and the University of South Australia (UniSA) have trained machine learning algorithms to diagnose various diseases based on the color of a person’s tongue. Research results It was published In Technologies magazine.

Researchers from Iraq and Australia have developed an imaging system that can detect diseases such as diabetes, stroke, anemia, asthma, liver and gallbladder diseases, Covid-19, as well as various vascular and gastrointestinal problems.

To train the AI, the researchers conducted a series of experiments using 5260 images of the tongues of patients with various pathologies. After completing the preparation phase, the experts provided the model with 60 new photos. The algorithms were able to diagnose the disease by the color of the tongue with 98% accuracy.

Scientists have noted that diabetics have yellow tongues, cancer patients have purple tongues, and those who have had an acute stroke have red tongues. A white tongue can indicate anemia, and COVID-19 is likely to be dark red. An indigo or purple tongue can indicate asthma, as well as problems with blood vessels, the stomach, or intestines.

Ali Al-Naji, the lead author of the study, emphasized that scientists were inspired by traditional Chinese medicine when developing this artificial intelligence system.
