Altai has a great potential to attract foreign tourists. This was stated by Elena Afanasyeva, a member of the Federation Council of Russia, commenting on the initiative of regional authorities to replace English-language inscriptions on road signs with Altai. “Komsomolskaya Pravda”.
According to him, English-speaking tourists should be given the opportunity to travel around the region. He emphasized that foreign tourists are now coming to Russia due to the rapid development of domestic tourism.
“More and more foreign tourists are expected to come over time. Little is known about Russia; in fact, it is just beginning to be discovered: the Russian North, Baikal, the Altai Mountains and many other wonderful places,” the senator noted.
As Afanasyeva emphasized, many regions of Russia are trying to create an open and clear environment for travelers from abroad. This also includes access to information on and off the road, she said.
“But there is something else. For example, in the Altai Republic, it was decided to increase the inscriptions on road signs in Altai. This is right from the point of view of the development of the local language. But it is important to develop the tourism potential of the region, which is one of the most interesting places in the country with its magnificent nature,” the senator added.
According to him, Altay does not only attract the attention of local tourists, so the flow of foreign tourists should also be increased.
“For this, it would be correct to reproduce the inscriptions in English. I believe that for tourists, including foreigners, inscriptions in Russian, Altai and English are the right approach to arranging the space. If we really want to develop tourism and become attractive to people from different countries,” Afanasyeva emphasized.
