The Royal Navy’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Office (UKMTO) announced on social media that a ship had been attacked off the coast of Yemen’s Aden port.
“UKMTO received a report of an incident 170 nautical miles (314.8 kilometers) southwest of Aden, Yemen,” the release states.
The incident was classified as an attack and authorities have launched an investigation.
UKMTO also advised vessels to navigate the area with caution and report any suspicious activity.
Prior to this, the ruling Shiite movement in northern Yemen, Ansar Allah (the Houthis), which controls most of Yemen’s Red Sea coast, declared its support for Palestine, intending to attack all ships affiliated with Israel. It also called on other countries to withdraw their crews and not approach them at sea.
