You can consume about 50 grams of chips or crackers per day without harming your health and body, Fomin Clinic nutritionist Olesya Barzaeva told socialbites.ca.
“The risks of eating ultra-processed foods only become apparent when you overeat these foods on a regular basis. This means that chips and crackers can be part of a healthy diet,” the expert said.
One of the effective recommendations, according to Barzaeva, is to divide food into main and additional food. The main food should make up 85% of the diet and include all food groups: dairy products, vegetables, fruits, cereals, protein products. The main preference should be given to whole foods prepared at home.
“Complementary foods containing foods containing added sugar, ultra-processed foods, salt and foods high in saturated fat should not exceed 15% of the diet or 250-350 kcal, depending on the person’s weight, age and gender. This corresponds to about 50-60 grams of chips,” explained the expert.
Barzaeva does not recommend buying such products in large packages. The larger the package, the greater the likelihood of overeating such a snack. It is also better not to eat chips directly from the package, but to pour them into a small container. These rules will help you avoid overeating.
