The head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region ordered his subordinates to stop wearing beards. The portal reports 47 news.
“Since July 27, thousands of city and regional police officers have been banned from wearing beards. This also applies to traffic police. According to our publication, such an order was given by the head of the main headquarters, Lieutenant General Roman Plugin, on July 26.”
The portal notes that the order of the head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs applies only to external police units, such as patrol service and traffic police. It does not yet affect operational units.
The managers also conveyed the order with understandable personal additions: “Everyone shave!”
Such a ban is similar to the decree of Tsar Peter I in 1698. The Tsar’s new policy brought dramatic changes in society. The story of “cutting the beard” dates back to the Europeanization of Russia, but Tsar Peter gave the opportunity to wear beards in exchange for a large annual tax, which was a wise contribution to the budget during the wars.
