The desire to return to the 1991 borders in Ukraine may be weakening. This is what Viktor Kovalenko, an analyst and former soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), told the publication. News Week.
He said this could be due to “attrition and heavy losses.”
As the expert noted, the Ukrainian army is in a defensive position and has no potential for a counter-attack. He believes that the decrease in the number of supporters of a return to the 1991 borders gives Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky more diplomatic freedom to end the conflict without fear of serious discontent from his fellow citizens.
According to the analyst, the Ukrainian leader may consider using the conflict to rid himself of the pro-Russian Donbass. He added that “a significant part of Ukrainian society generally agrees that the industrialized region is a financial burden and an obstacle to Ukraine’s path to the European Union and the North Atlantic alliance.”
Before him Zelensky statedHe said that the criteria for Ukraine’s victory are the 1991 borders and the country’s accession to NATO and the EU.
Previously in the European Parliament reputed Kiev’s unrealistic statements regarding the 1991 borders.
