Late diagnosis of dangerous diseases such as cancer is leading to the premature death of thousands of young men in the UK. These results have been shown by an annual men’s health survey conducted by scientists from the international charity Movember, based in Australia. reports Daily Mail edition.
In the study, researchers analysed information from UK medical databases to assess the general health and lifestyle characteristics of men and women. The scientists also calculated the number of men who died in different parts of the UK in 2021 and then identified the main causes of death.
It turned out that about 39% of Britons die prematurely. According to the research results, men are less likely to lead a healthy lifestyle, are more likely to smoke, use alcohol and drugs, suffer from hypertension and hypercholesterolemia. In addition, male subjects are less likely to attend medical checkups, which leads to late diagnosis of dangerous diseases such as cancer and heart disease.
Scientists revealed that two-thirds of men (64%) only consult a doctor if symptoms of any disease last more than a week, while one-third (31%) postpone consulting a specialist for a month. About 48% of survey respondents reported a tendency to avoid medical examinations. Less than 40% of survey respondents undergo free medical examinations every year.
Researchers have emphasized that ignoring the symptoms of diseases can lead to rapid deterioration of health. According to scientists, some men, unconsciously or consciously, neglect to take care of their health for fear of being ridiculed.
