The number of catering establishments with summer verandas has increased in Russia 00:30

The number of enterprises with summer verandas increased by 15% over the year. The number of summer residents is increasing due to the increase in the number of enterprises of the “street table” format. Voronezh took the first place in terms of the growth of such establishments, and Nizhny Novgorod, just like a year ago, was the leader in the share of summer verandas. This is evidenced by a 2GIS study, the results of which were studied by socialbites.ca.

Currently, 12 thousand summer workers work in the country’s 16 largest cities – in catering establishments such as restaurants, cafes, bars, coffee shops, bakeries and fast food outlets, often with summer terraces under the shade or tables on the street.

According to 2GIS, in July 2024, the number of summer residents in public catering in cities with a population of over one million was 15% more than in the same figure in July 2023. The number of such areas where you can have a snack in the fresh air is now more than 12.3 thousand, compared to 10.7 thousand in the middle of last year.

The top 3 cities with an increase in the number of summer residents were Voronezh (+31% annually), Rostov-on-Don (+30%) and Kazan (+27% of summer residents). On the other side of the rating – Krasnoyarsk – the number of catering establishments with terraces or tables increased by 5% here.

The increase in the number of summer residents was largely due to the increase in the number of areas with tables on the street – unlike terraces, they are not equipped with a canopy and can be without fences. This format is of interest to restaurateurs; in cities with a population of over a million this summer, there are 41% more establishments with tables on the street than last summer. In some cities, for example, in Voronezh and Rostov-on-Don, the service of meals with tables in the summer months has increased several times.

Moscow and St. Petersburg stand out from other cities in terms of the absolute number of establishments with verandas (Moscow has more than 4,000 such establishments, and St. Petersburg has more than 2,000). The number of verandas in these cities is also growing – in Moscow it increased by 10% over the year, in St. Petersburg – by 12%. Krasnodar is closest to the capitals in terms of the number of summer catering services – there are about a thousand establishments with terraces and tables in the city, which is 25% more than a year ago.

According to 2GIS, the largest share of “letniks”, as a year ago, is in public catering establishments in Nizhny Novgorod – about 30%. Almost every third establishment in the city has a terrace or tables outside. Almost the same share of catering services in the open air in enterprises in Krasnodar and Kazan is 29% and 28%, respectively. The smallest number of establishments with summer terraces is in Krasnoyarsk – the share of “street” catering services in the city is about 5%.

The share of summer residents in the capitals is not the largest, but still impressive, given that the number of public catering establishments is several times greater than in other cities (more than 18 thousand in Moscow, St. Petersburg) – the share of summer verandas in both cities is about 22%.
