It turns out that smoking is the most common bad habit that annoys Russians in offices. At the same time, Russians are quite tolerant of colleagues with a “disturbing” lifestyle, as a nationwide survey by Renaissance Insurance (MOEX: RENI) and Zarplata.ru found. socialbites.ca learned about the results of the survey.
Almost all of the working participants had bad habits. The majority (almost three-quarters) stick with them due to stress, including work stress (51%). Too much work (45%), dissatisfaction with the amount of salary (44%), overwork (30%) and position too low by the participants’ standards (28%) were among the main negative factors of stress. People cope by using their usual methods, such as smoking, drinking alcohol, and overeating fast food or sweets.
Talking about the bad habits of colleagues, the majority of respondents (59%) expressed dissatisfaction with smoking: Due to too frequent smoke breaks, colleagues do not have time to complete the required amount of work on time. A third are unhappy with colleagues who overuse social media at work (36%), while almost a third are unhappy with speakers who interfere with the team’s work. One in four people (26%) do not like their colleagues eating lunch at work (26%). Only 11% of survey respondents said they were uncomfortable consuming alcohol in the office.
At the same time, the survey showed that Russians have a fairly high tolerance for the bad habits of their colleagues. While more than half of respondents (53%) said their colleagues’ bad habits did not affect them, only 6% of respondents said they were “very bothered” by these bad habits. At the same time, one in five (19%) said the degree of discomfort caused by smoking, talkativeness, eating lunch in the office and other habits was “quite significant.”
