Top secret: the torrijas recipe you’ll have this Holy Week

Without french toast There is no Easter. This is traditional easter dessert It should be in every self-respecting home these days. Although traditional recipes have changed recently, the truth is that the best guide is the guidance of grandmothers and mothers for life.

So that you don’t miss the torrijas this holiday, We make a suggestion easy recipe and just make sure they come out perfect.

  • A loaf of bread (daily or stale, let’s debunk the myth).

  • 600ml. milk (whole, half or skim, whichever you prefer).

  • 3 eggs.

  • Cinnamon to sprinkle on top.

  • Cinnamon stick.

  • 100 gr. of sugar.

  • Olive oil.

  1. We boil the milk in a pot with 2 cinnamon sticks and sugar. While the milk is heating, cut the bread into slices of about 2 cm.

  2. The newer the bread, the less it needs to be soaked in milk.

  3. When the milk, cinnamon sticks and sugar boil, we pour it into a deep plate in which we will later soak the bread slices. We prepare another deep plate and beat three eggs.

  4. In order for the torrijas to cook quickly and not get clogged with oil, we heat the frying pan with oil over high heat. We dip the bread slices into the milk in the plate with the hot oil in the pan and the scrambled eggs we prepared in another plate.

  5. When it becomes soft but not crumbly, we take it one by one, dip it in the beaten egg, and then add it to the oil.

  6. Fry the torrijas in oil. When one side becomes golden brown, we turn it over and wait for the other side to brown. After they are fried, we place them on a plate or container that we have previously lined with kitchen paper to drain off the rest of the oil from the torrijas. As soon as you put the torrijas on the plate, you need to follow two important steps: Mash them with a spatula and sprinkle cinnamon on them.
