The doctor explained that the two most dangerous side effects of paracetamol are the development of internal bleeding and liver damage.
“The first is the development of anaphylactic shock, bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract due to the development of acute erosions and ulcers in some people. And hepatotoxic effect. This occurs in patients with a deficiency of the CYP2E1 enzyme, impaired function, which leads to an increase in the formation of the hepatotoxic metabolite of paracetamol,” Umnov noted.
Additionally, paracetamol is sold in 50 different preparations. It is important to use the medicine exactly and at the dose recommended by the doctor. It is easy to give more than necessary: if the maximum permissible daily dosage is 60 mg per kg, then 100 mg per kg is already a toxic dose that can lead to death, added Svetlana Budantseva, lecturer at the Department of Therapy, pediatrician at the Medical Faculty of the State Educational University.
