There are unique, rapidly developing social networks and services in Russia. This was stated by Vadim Vinogradov, Dean of the Law Faculty of the Higher School of Economics and Chairman of the ROCIT Commission on Legislative Activities.
“Despite the selective attitude of Western IT giants towards Russian legislation, some of our media personalities continue to publish their content exclusively on foreign services, supporting these platforms and their policies. You don’t have to look far for examples; Let’s remember how the users of Facebook (the owner of the company Meta is known as an extremist in Russia and is banned) and Instagram (the owner of the company Meta is known as an extremist in Russia). “Calls for violence against Russians were allowed,” Vinogradov said.
He believes that by publishing content only on foreign platforms, authors deprive their audience of the right to choose.
“This is not quite true, given that there is a wide range of high-quality analogues in the country from which materials can be copied,” the expert said.
As Vinogradov emphasizes, moderators of Russian sites respond quickly to complaints, and developers, unlike their foreign “colleagues”, are open to dialogue and new offers.
“Foreign sites often deliberately ignore users from Russia, thereby depriving them of digital security. Domestic platforms regularly add new functions and offer lossless transfer of data from foreign sites. “This is extremely useful and gives confidence in the security of the content,” he added.
According to the lawyer, the possibilities for creative execution on local platforms are almost unlimited.
“The important thing is to comply with the law. The same principle applies to business. Domestic online platforms are an excellent arena to attract viewers and new customers,” Vinogradov concluded.
