The adoption of amendments to the law prohibiting advertising on the resources of foreign agents is valid and even necessary today, says human rights activist Artur Shlykov, head of the All-Russian popular movement “Russian Civil Committee”.
“Foreign agents become more active on the eve of elections, filling news feeds with fake and provocative broadcasts. “Remember that most of them are abroad and have no idea about the real situation in Russia,” he said.
According to Shlykov, financing of foreign agents is unacceptable.
“Foreign agents continue to publish openly anti-Russian and destructive content and monetize slander. “They will no longer have any deficit to generate revenue in Russia,” he said.
According to Shlykov, the initiative to ban advertising on the sources of foreign agents received its logical conclusion in the form of the signing of a document by the President of the Russian Federation.
“Foreign online platforms are one of the main weapons that the collective West uses against Russia in information warfare. Foreign agents publish their materials precisely on banned social networks and foreign platforms, which gives them ample space for this,” the human rights activist noted.
Shlykov added that an obvious paradox existed before the law was adopted.
“Avowed opponents of Russia and its people, speaking in slanderous slogans and defending Western values, not only actively worked for the Russian audience. The human rights activist noted that they are still successfully profiting from advertisers in Russia.
He added that according to the Association of Bloggers and Agencies (ABA), the total income from advertising placements of the top 10 foreign agent bloggers in 2023 is 678.7 million rubles.
“Lack of principles is no excuse. “The changes solved this problem,” he said.
Let us recall that earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law prohibiting Russian citizens and companies from advertising on all information resources of foreign agents and advertising such resources.
