Great Barrier Reef exposed to new wave of bleaching 10:05

The Great Barrier Reef is once again experiencing mass coral bleaching due to global climate change. The publication reports that Guard.

Citing Australian officials, the publication writes that mass coral bleaching has been going on for several years across much of the Great Barrier Reef due to rising sea temperatures and changes in acid levels. The changes are most noticeable in the southern part of the reef, where centuries-old coral has been affected. In 2024, this became clear once again.

Scientists at the Australian Institute of Marine Science came to these conclusions after completing aerial photographs of an area covering more than two-thirds of the reef. It is stated that the reef has been resistant to such changes in the past.

Mass bleaching in the Great Barrier Reef was first noticed in 1998 and occurred again in 2002, 2016, 2017, 2020, 2022. Bleaching occurs when healthy corals become stressed by sudden increases in ocean temperatures and are deprived of living algae in their tissues. This situation also affects other creatures living in the Reef ecosystem. In cases of extreme heat stress, corals can undergo irreversible changes.

Oceanographers in 2023 I found a way I save corals in the Great Barrier Reef.

Previous scientists discovered Corals surviving bleaching.
