A man who was imprisoned for someone else’s crime was released in the United States 12:08

In the United States, Daniel Gwynn was released after 30 years in prison for someone else’s crime. This was reported by washington post.

The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office said Gwynn admitted not committing the crime for which he was sentenced to life in prison in 1994, according to the publication. He was accused of setting fire to Marsh Smith’s house, but the latter was not saved.

Two witnesses said Gwynn was involved in the arson. It was later revealed that they identified another man, but he intimidated them into retracting their statements. The case file containing information about the other suspect did not reach Gwynn’s defense. Additionally, Gwynn did not attend the in-person authentication parade, and witnesses did not see her photograph, among others.

Gwynn’s case was reviewed again in 2020, and the court once again sentenced him to life in prison. But Gwynn’s defense gained access to all case materials, allowing them to begin a new process to overturn the conviction.
