Scientists revealed the mystery of the first mummies in Ancient Egypt 20:00

British scientists from the University of York have discovered that the first mummies in Ancient Egypt appeared much earlier than historians’ current estimates. The study was published in the scientific journal broadcasting Journal of Archaeological Science (JAS).

According to previous research, the origins of Egyptian mummification date back to B.C. It dates back to 4300 BC. Archaeological evidence shows this.

But in 2014, scientists discovered remnants of materials used to wrap mummies in the Mostagedda cemetery, 320 kilometers south of Cairo. Recent analysis showed that the finds are 6,300 years old. At the same time, the material was impregnated with a characteristic composition of embalming resins, which included vegetable oil, animal fat, beeswax and gum.

That is, the first mummies in Egypt may have appeared approximately 3 thousand years before the invention of writing (3150 BC) and 3.6 thousand years before the creation of the first pyramids (2667 BC).

Scientists noted that in addition to artificial mummification, the Egyptians also resorted to a natural method and buried the deceased in the hot and dry sands of the desert. The oldest known mummies of this type date back to B.C. It dates back to 5000 years ago. Archaeologists believe that this burial method was used by people who did not have the means to embalm.

Previous scientists recreated The scent of an Egyptian mummy.
