As the Ministry announced, the number of critically endangered species has increased from 182 to 465 in the last seven years. The number of endangered species increased by 87% to 801, and the list of vulnerable plants and animals expanded to 837 species. It was 22% more.
The endangered species list includes two species of manatee and some plants found only in Colombia.
“We call on environmental and regional authorities to take the necessary measures to protect these endangered species,” said Mauricio Cabrera, Colombia’s Deputy Minister for Environmental Policy and Health.
