Hormonal imbalances can reduce the effectiveness of cosmetic procedures or lead to complications. In this respect “Izvestia” said endocrinologist “INVITRO-Voronezh” Yulia Sidorkina.
The doctor said that botulinum treatment is used to relax the facial muscles and thus smooth out wrinkles. If you have diabetes, this procedure may cause bruising. If you have hyperthyroidism (increased thyroid hormone levels), Botox may not work and its effect will be shorter. In cases of hypothyroidism (low thyroid function) due to swelling of the face, Botox can penetrate nearby tissues and increase swelling.
Likewise, filler drugs used to renew tissue volume may aggravate swelling due to hypothyroidism. And in case of hyperthyroidism, the use of fillers may not give the expected effect, since with this pathology the metabolism is accelerated and the fillers dissolve faster.
“The use of fillers for diabetes has strict restrictions and is possible only when the disease lasts less than five years without complications and only in case of stable compensation,” added Sidorkina.
The doctor concluded that the presence of endocrine diseases is not an absolute contraindication for aesthetic procedures, but it is necessary to consult an endocrinologist.
