Proper hygiene and vaccination can protect against meningococcal infection. Qualified therapist Lyudmila Lapa talked about this “Reedus”.
“Meningitis is transmitted instantly through airborne droplets and close contact. The main rule is to maintain personal hygiene and wash your hands. The second rule is to drink water only from an individual water bottle at school, and under no circumstances should it be shared with other children. “The third rule is to use a mask if there is a sick child nearby to prevent the transmission of infection,” he said.
Previously, an 11-year-old schoolgirl from the Lipetsk region died due to meningococcal infection. According to Lapa, the Lipetsk High School administration did the right thing: stopped classes, treated the building and disinfected the air with circulation machines.
“If the focal points are quickly sterilized and localized, the spread of the infection can be quickly stopped. The earlier the necessary measures are taken, the greater the chance of saving children’s lives. Therefore, the sanitary and epidemiological service now needs to work very actively,” said Lapa.
The doctor also recommended considering the possibility of vaccination against meningococcus, which provides protection against infection for up to ten years.
