Using the Hubble Space Telescope, a team of astronomers led by experts from Randolph-Macon College in Virginia discovered a cluster of 12 young galaxies locked together like a necklace of pearls. The research was published in the official gazette Web site NASA.
According to scientists, spiral galaxies are held together by arms that can extend for thousands of light years.
Because the spiral arms are filled with gas and dust, when stretched toward regions called tidal tails, these materials mix and form new stars.
The team was able to detect 425 new star clusters. It contains approximately one million blue luminaires, each of which glows brightly in the ultraviolet range.
According to astronomers, the discovered structure is quite extraordinary. Although such clusters are characteristic of the times of the young Universe, the age of galaxies does not exceed 10 million years. This means that the galactic “necklace” can be used to study cosmic processes that occurred billions of years ago.
Formerly the Hubble Space Telescope suspended Working due to malfunction.
