The US State Department decided to sell F-16 warplanes and equipment to Turkey for 23 billion dollars TASS referring to the Pentagon.
This delivery will include the modernization of 79 existing F-16 fighter jets, as well as the purchase of spare parts and various systems, including navigation and communications.
Ankara has requested permission to purchase 40 new F-16s from the United States, which was long blocked by the US Congress due to disagreement with Turkish foreign policy. The authorization to purchase fighter jets and equipment was given after Turkey approved Sweden’s NATO membership.
Ben Cardin, formerly Chairman of the United States Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved F-16 sales to Turkey following the decision to approve Sweden’s participation in the North Atlantic Alliance.
