The German-British enterprise Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) showed photos of the first prototype of the British Army’s main battle tank Challenger 3. The publication reported: Breaking the Defense.
The car was assembled at the British factory in Telford. Trials will begin soon and last 18 months. Eight samples are planned to be released for testing.
Rory Breen, director of strategy and future affairs at RBSL, said the Challenger 3 would be “the best tank in NATO”. According to him, the combat vehicle is being created with the possibility of modifications and modernization that will allow it to be improved until its decommissioning, which is planned for 2040.
The new tank is based on the “bare chassis” of the Challenger 2 tank, on which more than half of all units will be replaced. Challenger 2 will be armed with a 120 mm Rheinmetall smoothbore gun, a digitized turret, new sights for day and night guidance, the Rafael Trophy active protection system and a modular armor system.
On January 11, military expert Anatoly Matviychuk said that British Challenger tanks most overrated Western weapons in the Ukrainian conflict.
Previously, the USA had used Western tanks useless On behalf of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
