US and UK are launching a new joint attack against the Houthis in Yemen

United States and United Kingdom This Monday, they bombed various positions of the Houthi rebels in YemenIt represents the two countries’ second joint operation against the group, the Pentagon said in a statement.

As one of the main objectives of the operation destruction of one of the underground warehouses It’s where the Houthis hide some of the missiles they use against ships in the Red Sea. The Pentagon announced that the attacks also targeted other Houthi positions used for air surveillance. The operation resulted in the destruction of eight targets in total. Notification no deaths reported in operation.

In the statement made by the relevant governments, it was stated that the USA and the UK carried out the attacks with the support of Australia, Bahrain, Canada and the Netherlands.

In the statement made by the White House, it was stated that just this Monday, US President Joe Biden spoke on the phone with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak about various issues, including security in the Red Sea.

The new attack comes ten days after the United States and Britain launched the first joint strike against 60 Houthi-linked targets in Yemen; this was the first major retaliatory action against rebels for attacks on the Red Sea. Since the first joint attack, the US has launched several separate attacks against the Houthis; most of these were directed against missiles that, according to Washington, posed an imminent threat to shipping in the Red Sea.

Houthis, an Iranian-backed militia group that controls large regions in Yemencommitted many crimes Attacks on ships claimed to be linked to Israel in the Red Sea and Bab el Mandeb Strait or they are heading towards that country. The Houthis claim that their attacks are in retaliation for Israel’s attack on the Gaza Strip following an attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on October 7.

The violence has raised fears that the war in Gaza, where 25,000 people have already died, will escalate into a regional war. Moreover, these attacks by the Houthis could have a huge impact on the world economy because almost 15 percent of global maritime trade travels through the Red Sea.

On the diplomatic front, last week the US tried to cut off the flow of funds to the Houthis by calling them “terrorists”, an action the group considered an “honour”. The Houthis are part of the so-called ‘Axis of Resistance’ organized by Iran to expand its influence in the Middle East.
