Scientists from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology found that most people prefer to rock their babies with the left arm fold. The research was published on: magazine Infancy.
765 participants participated in the study. Regardless of their ability to hold a baby, 75% of participants instinctively use their non-dominant hand to rock their baby.
One theory is that most people rock the baby to the left so that the adult can hear his heartbeat better and thus calm him down. In addition, people perceive information faster with their left ear, so by holding the child on the left, you can quickly find out his emotional state.
However, scientists are leaning towards the second theory, where the discovered pattern can be explained by the convenience of keeping the dominant hand free for multitasking while holding the child.
However, as babies grow and become heavier, most people tend to carry them with their dominant, stronger hand.
