At least three people died in floods in Thailand

At least Three people died and two children are missing in severe floods in southern Thailand.Officials are predicting more rain for this Wednesday.

On Tuesday, emergency crews found the bodies of two women, aged 89 and 63, who died along with two young children, aged 8 and 2, when the boat they were evacuating from capsized in Narathiwat province. Search efforts are continuing this Wednesday to find two missing children. Meanwhile, in Yala province, authorities reported one more death due to drowning.

The rainstorm is affecting Thailand’s five southernmost provinces, but the worst was recorded in Narathiwat and Yala, where dozens of schools were forced to close their doors and some hospitals were affected.

Water level exceeded two meters in some parts of NarathiwatNeighbors had to take shelter on the roofs or upper floors of their houses. The waters also caused the closure of some major roads connecting the region and the suspension of rail service.

Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin visited some of the affected areas on Tuesday and called on authorities to quickly assist the public. According to official figures, more than 19,500 families, that is, more than 80,000 people, were affected by the flood.
