Vasily Kuptsov, former head of the Moscow Criminal Investigation Department (MUR), died after a serious illness at the age of 72. This was reported by Web site Moscow Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
Kuptsov joined the Moscow police in 1974. Two years later he started working in the criminal investigation department. In 1994 Kuptsov headed MUR. In 1996, he became deputy chief of the Moscow police, and three years later – first deputy chief and head of the criminal police force.
In 2001 Kuptsov retired with the rank of police major general. He headed the organizations of veterans of the Moscow Criminal Investigation Department and the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Moscow.
