The risk of death from Covid-19 decreases significantly after vaccination, but this protection almost completely disappears after six months, highlighting the importance of booster vaccinations. This has been shown by a published study. JRSM.
The study authors analyzed more than 10 million cases of COVID-19 in adults between May 2020 and February 2022. Among adults over 50, the risk of death was 10 times higher in those who were not vaccinated than in those who were vaccinated in the six months before the positive test result. The death rate was 6.3 percent in the unvaccinated group and 0.6 percent in the vaccinated group.
Researchers also found a sharp decline in deaths in early 2021 when the vaccine became available. But the risk of death was consistently low across all age groups for six months after the last dose of the vaccine. After that, protection began to wane and the risk of death increased.
The study confirms the success of the COVID-19 vaccination program and highlights the importance of booster shots.
Previous scientists I learnedIt was stated that the risk of death in COVID is 50% higher than in flu.
