This is the 24th time that the country’s main New Year tree has been named in the name of the president and governor of the Moscow region. The process of cutting, tying and transporting has already begun and by December 22 the tree will be decorated in Cathedral Square.
The tree is 84 years old, its height is 25 meters, its branch span is 10 meters, and its trunk diameter is 60 centimeters. This year, 30 candidates were evaluated to select the main spruce. The selection took several months, and the tree had to meet several parameters: it had the correct pyramidal shape of the crown, a uniform rich color of the needles and the absence of dry and broken branches. Another important factor was easy access to the spruces, which were chosen to avoid damage to neighboring trees. The tree was delivered from the village of Fryanovo in the Moscow region.
The main New Year tree will welcome its first guests on December 26 in the State Kremlin Palace. Children from all over the country will be able to watch the performance “New Year in Far Away” until January 8, the press service of the Moscow Federation of Trade Unions reported.
