The Chinese Coast Guard once again used water cannons against Philippine Coast Guard ships in the Ayungin Shoal region in the South China Sea (SCS). This was reported by TASS.

The publication states that the incident occurred during Filipinos’ food distribution and personnel rotation on the ship Sierra Madre. It is emphasized that the engine of one of the Philippine ships was seriously damaged.

December 3 Philippine Coast Guard statedMore than 135 Chinese maritime militia ships are currently located in the South China Sea near the Whitsun Reef, which is disputed with China (Phil. – Julian Felipe Reef, China – Nuejiao). They announced that there were 111 Chinese militia ships in the region on November 13, but the number has since exceeded 135. In this context, the Philippines sent many patrol boats to the region.

Whitsun Reef is located 320 km from the Philippine island of Palawan and more than 1 thousand km from the Chinese island of Hainan. Vietnam, as well as China and the Philippines, have previously claimed reef rights.
